But what a coincidence! I'm also doing an evening landscape with the moon. But it's still unfinished and not as good as yours and I hesitate to post it.
Thanks very much @tassieguy I focus more on planning rather than inventing during painting. I made a small gouache sketch of this scene a few months back, manipulated the source photo until I was absolutely satisfied.
I was told that when Vincent van Gogh painted 'Starry Night Over the Rhône', for light, he stood in the dark with candles on his straw hat.
p.s. I saw 'Starry Night Over the Rhône' at a gallery recently - I must have stood there for 20 minutes, it just captures you. Hopefully, if I get good enough, I will attempt something like this. If you 'catch it', this type of painting becomes absorbing in a special way.
... very nice ... it makes me want to sit there and fish... even if the fish don't see the bait... would be nice! No crocodils in there I hope... it looks so peaceful but one never knows... ;-)
Forgot to mention that this is not Mark Carder palette. I used Prussian Blue, Yellow Ochre, titanium white and vermilion. So those black trees that you see are Prussian blue and vermilion.

@Kaustav Very well done!

I think you will look terrific with candles on your straw hat. Don't forget some ear protection.

I did this study in November 2016 with gouache. Obviously, there are differences in color and shapes. But the composition was mastered.
