I'm finally done with this painting. I had the painting photographed with a better camera. There's a small amount of glare right under the hat in the shadow area in the original, so I had it fixed in photoshop. Here are both results (first picture without any photoshopping):
ebs,I haven't been on the forum for a while. I remember when you first started this painting. I am amazed that you have been working on it so long, although, intermittently. The patience and perseverance you have has worked in making this painting such a truly amazing one....I am Gobsmacked !!!!! ^:)^
@ebs Thank you for sharing your amazing work with us. I love the way you have worked your way down the photo bit by bit, I imagine this would make things easier for someone like me who finds it hard to focus and gets overwhelmed by a bigger picture. I think you have the patience of a saint and it's paid off because your completed work is wonderful. ^:)^
@marieb Thank you so much for the kind words!!! Yes I've been working on this for a looong time, although, as you say intermittently. There were a couple of months with no painting. It's nice to be done, finally. @Ronna Thank you! @dreamlight66 Thank you very much for the kind words!!! Working my way down the photo bit by bit really helped me. As you say, it's so easy to get overwhelmed by the bigger picture. I'd really recommend that way of working. And to have the reference photo just below the area I was working on also helped getting everything accurate. @pop Thank you so much!!! Reasonably happy, but I might be suffering from what they call "the artist curse". Not sure yet )
@Daddyjama Thank you very much. I used a small filbert kolinsky sable brush number 2, but the smalest brush was actually one Mark recommends in the supplies list, the round mongoose brush number 0. I also highly recommend a smooth canvas for fine detailed paintings. Makes it much easier. Claessens 13 (recommended by Mark) is a great canvas. @questmiller Thanks!
@Barbara. I know it IS terrific but @ebs hasn't participated or visited in two years. I do the same thing all the time... look at old posts and make comments even though they're years old.
