Turned into fifteen. Sometimes I think I need help. ( not with the painting ) 24" x 28" The colors in this painting are a real challenge, these fish are beautiful. Any ideas before I start ,(besides "don't Start" ) Thanks
Great beginning. I like all the fish, it's a way more interesting composition. Question. Do you have references for all the additional fish in their various positions or just the large central pair?
gfish; Long, long time ago, I sold trios for $18. Too much work as you know. And they are my favorite Shirley; They are pretty., The color of the skin is very hard to get. its transparent. Spent an hour trying to mix it cant get it yet. ANY IDEAS ARE WELCOME .
Bill, I was getting 30 for trio when I got out. Had a disease tear through and I was not fast enough or safe enough and lost most of my good ones. Just quit at that point. Paint the skin like you would a grape that is also transparent.
When you mix up those violets and blues and grays that make the skin look transparent Bill, you will get the effect of transparency. Don't think about the skin being transparent, just look at and isolate the colours that you see, and put them where you see them. Good luck easier said than done of course. I seem to have a difficult time mixing up vibrant oranges from Mark's basic colours, I tend to muddy or weaken this particular colour easily (would love someone else's experience with oranges and also turquoises!)
Ron, My computer is screwed up and I thought it showed up when posted, David told me and now you that I`m the only one that sees it..that's a good thing. Maybe I am crazy. Thanks
@suekat If i remember right, Mark says he cant mix a strong turquoise with his French ultramarine. He said he would use Winsor blue or how he now calls it "Power blue" or Phtaloblue. With the orange i dont know.
@iwillpaint Thanks! played around with a little windsor blue and definitely this is the solution for a good strong turquoise. I am going to try cad. red medium for an orange. I have been adhering to the basic 5 colours and I really love them for most of my painting, there is a subtle uniformity developing
Looking so good billj. The tail-brushwork is nice. Beautiful colors. To resize a photo maybe use Gimp a free programm for editing pictures. http://www.gimp.org/
billj What a beautiful painting, regarding the little guy in the yellow I think he looks a little like the odd man out, maybe distracting from the two main characters. Maybe if you hold up a piece of card or something to block him out it may help you decide if you prefer him there or not or if he's too bright or not. Hope this helps.
Great painting billj, The yellow one might seem too strong because its the only one like it..a "black sheep" of sorts...it will pull the viewer's focus. If it were me, I'd stick with the color scheme used with the other fish.
@billj Ooops sorry Bill I gave my accolades to Ron for this painting. That will teach me to read properly and not keep popping in and out spasmodically ... love this painting Bill.
