Mixing gessos for ground color

I don't know if this has been discussed or not, but I want to start making my canvas' and put on a coat of gesso. Now my question is can I mix a burnt umber gesso with a white gesso to get my ground color? Would act like a quick drying white and burnt umber and mineral spirits?

If you are starting from raw canvas you will need a good primer too. Often purchased canvas is sized and primed with gesso. Check your label and mfrs website.

Yes, suggest multiple coats of lightly sanded acrylic gesso with the last coat mixed/toned with acrylic burnt umber. Alternately, multiple coats of lightly sanded acrylic gesso and a final of acrylic iron oxide or raw sienna.

I use clear gesso and mix some acrylic paint with it.
