My paints are on their way! After a long absence from painting while I was into other art pursuits I'm ready to paint again. Ive never painted in oil but very excited thanks to Mark's videos and sharing his art. I really want to just "play" with the paints at first to get a feel for the paint in small works done on wood scraps I've been saving. How do I prepare the (new) wood to protect it and the painting for the long term (incase I paint something savable) ? Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thank you!

Varnish - sand - varnish - sand - oil based primer - dry - stain - dry - paint a picture. Thats the way I do it. Check out this thread for more information.
