I have a book on Antarctica that I've had for many years and the photos have always amazed me. I thought they would make beautiful paintings. Zaria Forman's work makes me want to look at it again and paint something from it. There'd probably be copyright issues, though. You can see more of her works and read about them here:

Works like this, so inspiring! so huge! and so very beautiful! Working in pastel as large as this in my studio inspired me to render chalk art including using fine pastels on the street for 9 years. I rendered realism, average size was 10'ft.x15'ft, 6'ft.x8'ft., largest 12'ftx20'ft. And lots of fun and enjoyed that the art was not permanent on the ground! It's amazing to use such a dry medium yet still get the sense of wetness! Thank you for this, she's awesome!

How do you get the sheen with pastel...or is that the sealer?

I think she's just brilliant at using pastels. What looks like sheen is the highlights. She's absolutely on top of the technique and can create the full range of values from black to pure white and everything in between. As Mark emphasizes, it's the values that make or break a realist work. She not only gets them right but puts the values in exactly the right place and gets the colour right, too. I think her work is just amazing.
