Figure Drawing Karl Gnass

Gnass would have to be the best teacher for this complex topic.

I have been following him for more than a year now. His drawing method is very useful for painters to be exact. Old masters followed a linear approach due to linear method of tempera painting. But Karl's technique is the most practical and modern, even compared to the other greats in his profession.

His books are full of great gestural drawings interspersed with the occasional philosophical generalization. Nothing practical about method or technique. I guess you have to enroll in his courses to get the basics.

I do admire the casual ease with which he draws figures with such balance, volume and movement.

  • I don't have much interaction with him but looks like a great deal!
