Matching color on monitor

Hi all!

I have a question. Is there a way to match colors with a picture on your computer monitor? I admit I am a cheap skate and am finding printing out pictures is a little pricey.

Can you use the color checker? Or does the lighting in the monitor mess that up? I like the bright clear look of the monitor.
