Hej!
I just finished theese paintings and I am practicing beeing brave to show my work.
I started to paint with oil colors as very young, 8 years old. My first painting was a lonely pig with a ray of light coming in to the barn. At the age of 22 I stopped painting and two years ago my father died and I started to paint again And I found it very frightening to paint as an adult but the draw mix paint webpage has been a great inspiration for me theese two years. Now I am 30 and I paint with the joy I had as a child and I am so thankful for that.
My absolute favourite painter is Anders Zorn

I am thinking of the background of the second portrait; I made it very simple cause I didn't want it to pop out, but now I feel like it's poping out because its too simple what do you think?

I don't think you need to change anything, looks uncontrived as it is (which is good). There does seem to be a bit of glare, most noticeable in the top-right quadrant of the painting, so do get a good photo to post after you've varnished.

Really can't emphasize enough how good I think it is. If I was being really critical I might suggest that maybe, just maybe, a tiny bit of fill light on the shadow side of the face — just enough to get the values above black — might work well, but I like it the way it is and wouldn't mess with it!
