There is not a lot wrong with your drawing, quite beautiful. Needs some more work on the shading and dimensional modelling.

Also wetcanvas.com has an ongoing online free basic drawing class staffed by volunteers on their drawing channel.

The best advice I got was to buy a sketch book and to draw every day, especially from life.

Photoshop and illustrator is best drawing software. But, it would be very expensive. There are many software that freely available. Krita and GIMP are one of them.

Just curious.  Why do you want drawing software as opposed to good quality paper and charcoal or pencil?

It's kind of fun bringing up threads from the past. There are still new things to learn by newcomers like me. New answers to old questions. I still haven't been through all the discussions.

There are lots of software for digital drawing.   Iv'e used Photoshop and felt it was sufficient.   More importantly is the drawing pad and stylus.   I picked up a Wacom Intuos a couple of years ago for around $100 USD.

The best software is between your ears, but web sites like PROKO can be very helpful, as well as book like the Andrew Loomis books on drawing.  All his books are available for free download from http://www.alexhays.com/loomis/, and some are available in reprints from Amazon.
