DMP SDM and oiling in

Is oiling in necesary in order to paint over dry paint considering the old dry layer and the new paint both contain so much of the SDM?

Oiling in is done to bring back the "sunk" oil color as an interim measure prior to varnish.
A dry layer can be regarded as inert and new paint will flow as it did on the toned canvas.

That said, a few artists do apply a thin oil coat to a dry canvas to aid the flow and blend of sky and background color.

Overall I don't think there will be much difference either way. Let us know how you go.
