Just went to rosa bonheur exhibition tonight at Orsay museum. I was aware of her work, but never saw her paintings in real life. 200 pieces of her at once. Wow, she knew how to paint. Her paintings are huge, she painted animals life size. Here are a few pics from the exhibition, with my poor cellphone quality. Imagine the deer painting at the end, it was something like 3m high. Very impressive work.
I wonder how they were doing for wild animal poses like this, they did not have a model nor photo ref, they mentionned that she frequently went to the forest to get some inspiration by looking at wild animals. Is this painted from imagination?
