10 billion pixel camera (Girl with a pearl earring)

Not sure if this was posted before. Was looking for a high resolution photo of this famous painting when I found this. Was not disappointed. They have a 3D option when you can zoom in so close you can move between the marks left by the brush strokes.

Amazing! You can even see into the cracks in the paint. 

Abstraction

It was worth the watch just for his accent.

I'm struck by how simple his portrayal of her face is. He says nothing more with his brush than he needs to.

@Abstraction, you've spoken before of painting in tonal masses, and I think this painting is a wonderful example of that. Apart from a wee bit of blending there is nothing here that the Meldrumite tonal impressionists could criticize. It's a wonderful, timeless painting.

Super cool! Quite thick paint in the highlights in the eyes..

Such a shame oil paint cracks so badly in the end.

@Richard_P. I also thought the same about the highlights. Very thick yet it never looks 'too much' or draws more attention than it should. What I found interesting about the cracks is it looks like someone tried to repair or 'hide' some of them. Its clearly visible on her forehead above her left eye. Could have been part of some restoration process perhaps.

I also saw the cracks as it felt like looking at modern art. Eye highlights are strangely fluid to this day. Possibly he used something similar to meggilp? He was very fluid with the brush strokes.

I'm surprised how dirty the medium-darks are on the skin and on the fabric. Really works so well
