Erm... Not sure on this one, could we have a little clue? I thought it was Monet too.

I believe he started out as a wood engraver, illustrator and most of the paintings I've seen from him were done in watercolors

Oh, I would never have got that one(I used google in the end). He's from England too! Hudson River School is the next clue.....(hope that's right!)

Ok... He painted at the same time as Van Gogh and Toulouse Lautrec and knew both of them. For a short time, Vincent incorporated this painter's method in his paintings. And, as I said before, you all know who he is and have seen his paintings.

He looks a little like Van Helsing in this screen grab! Actually he was demonstrating how NOT to use the device. That's another clue - this artist is methodical, no dramatics.

@Martin_J_Crane I know who it is, but only because I cheated. If I may offer a clue, they usually show his work in extreme close-up.

He's a french artist whom I should probably add to my black list for his attacks b-( against Bouguereau

Oh, could it be Degas? Although Monet and Cezanne also disliked Bouguereau to.
Have you read The Secret Knowledge by David Hockney? The art Renewal Centre who hold Bouguereau as there hero condemn Hockney for slating Bouguereau. It is well worth reading.

The Secret Knowledge is an amazing book, the reproduction of painting details are amazing. Hockneys knowledge of painting is mind blowing.
