Hi my name is Rosanne
I have been lurking for a long time. I was a lurker on the old sight and now on the new so I figured that it was about time that I introduce myself so that I can start commenting

. My husband bought Mark's still life video for me a few years back, I watched it but never got around to doing it because of space but now we bought a little bigger house with room in it for me to have a studio and once we finish remolding and move in I will be starting. I can not wait!
I am a self taught and mostly draw because I can not get the hang of painting

I grew up drawing and sculpting and didn't get into painting until latter in life. It took me awhile to make that first step. Someone told me that drawing and painting are really the same thing. You are using just a different set of tools to create an image. Once i got that into my head and realized I had to just learn this new set of tools I started looking for a no nonsense method. Luckily I found this one
Mark has also said that painting can be broken down into two categories - the craft side and the creative side. The craft side is learning to use the tools. That's what he teaches. So I concentrated on just learning the craft side first. It helped me a lot to break it down this way.
Hope it helps. Once again I love your drawing
I am excited about joining in and learning from all of you. I love drawing because I like the the detail and control I have with it , and that is why I think Mark's method is a perfect fit for me because he breaks it down into controllable steps that make sense to me. Before when I tried painting I just felt lost.
Hi Sue, my fellow Coloradan, I live in Northglenn right now but will be moving farther north to Britghton as soon as we can get our house done . We have been waiting on Kitchen cabinets for months now but hope they will be in soon so we can finish up.
But guess what. I learned to like it and now when I oil paint I am okay without detail overkill. Also, Mark encourages no blending, at least while you're laying paint down. That has helped me a lot, too. Even if I put down a stroke of paint, if I feel like it is wrong, I make myself leave it. At least until I'm almost done with the painting and by then I've been able to give it enough time to make a better judgment.
Sue, I think that will be the toughest part not blending right away
My kids bought me soft pastels for Christmas they are fat and like you said you can not get much detail out of them, I guess I better do a few more drawings with them and the kids will feel that mom likes their gift.
Always great to meet another Coloradan Melissa.
