Hello all , I have and eggplant that should be painted but I can’t get my color right , at all . Would anyone advice me ? I must be missing something . I can’t get a pretty deep purple and end up with mud . Thanks so much . annie
The colours look good, @Annie. It's an interesting painting.
To make the basic dark purple colour I would have used Quinacridone crimson and Ultramarine blue and varied the proportions of each to match the warmer and cooler areas.
@Annie, the aubergine is beautifully painted an its simple shadow locates it in space, anchors it, and makes the background work in this. It's amazing what something as simple as a faint cast shadow can do.
It is painted from a picture so the design isn’t mine. I had this photo waaaay before I started painting . If I knew who it was from I would credit them. Just wanted to try to match the colors .

edit: not that those specifically would make your color… sometimes cad red is very orange and phthalo blue can have green or purple variants…
I didn’t !
I’m fairly new to painting , about a year .

And its a nice departure from the pears, which are also very good.
