Thanks for sharing these, @ArtGal. I love the way Falk uses colour and brushstrokes to create an almost crystalline look. He reminds me of Cezanne with a bit of Picasso and Matisse into the mix.
I like the underlying geometry of his paintings. Cones, cubes, spheres, cylinders and prisms are repeated and arranged in space with correct perspective and populated with stylized human figures to create calm, dreamlike landscapes. I really like them.
Maybe this explains the dramatic value differences; but the sometimes weird colors I find are very beautiful. Thanks again for bringing this painter to us.
That's an impressive interior. The composition, drawing and handling of values are great. As soon as I saw it I thought of this Painting by Tom Roberts:
@tassieguy spot on! Main floor, two side galleries, workers, onlookers, exterior light at the end to draw the eye. Thanks for this. You've added hugely to my appreciation of interior composition and given me another artist to investigate.
Just recently learnt about this French academic painter Jean George Vibert His paintings of cardinals are amazing. This one called Eureka looks surprisingly contemporary to me.
