Clip on flexible artists easel lamp

Does anyone on the forum use one of these ?

I have been checking them out, though a t a little over 50 quid seem a little steep. They may be worth it though so any feedback would be appreciated.

I currently have a photographers light on a stand with one of those big canvas shades. Its a little cumbersome  in my tight space and. Trying to get it not to spill on my still life subject as well as trying not to eclipse it, as its more or less behind me, is not practical.

Not sure about the quality of these but this is option for studio when the model is in darkness, night plein air etc.

Not had any experience with these light units. But it will hotspot about a third of the canvas, making value comparisons impossible. A middle third will be ok and the third furtherest will be too dark for value matching.

Get some LEDs on the ceiling.

LEDs on the ceiling wont be easy for me.

I will make do with that camera light (daylight) on a stand for now.

MichaelD - I do have the one depicted in the photo.  I actually got it for pretty cheap when a local art store had a closeout sale last year.  It's better than nothing.  Especially if you're not working on a huge painting and you put to the top of your easel, you can get pretty even lighting.  That said, I try to paint during the day as much as possible to benefit from better lighting.

I bought an ikea desk lamp which is great, and put in a high cri 5000k bulb and it works very well for paintings up to about 8x10”. I tape parchment paper over the opening as a cheap diffuser. I paint all my gouache and casein paintings under it no problems.

Don't know the layout or lighting already in the room, but you could just put this in the existing socket. And buy an inexpensive adaptor if your outlet is of the bayonet variety. Just make sure your still life has a large enough roof lip at the front to stop bleed over of light sources. The source is in New Zealand but I am sure you can buy these globally from professional photography lighting shops. Not LED I know but it is what the pro's use.

Thanks @geoffrey_38, yes I already use one of these.

I mentioned above its one of those photographers lamps, with a kind of canvas hood.

It does the job so I will carry on with that.
