Apologies for the late reply, I am just now seeing this. To answer your question, besides some inexpensive "art store" brands I have only used the Polychromos. I find 100 lb. Strathmore Bristol smooth surface paper to be easy to use while not consuming too much of the pencils. I have used other papers to various ends. I like the look of Strathmore 80 lb. toned paper but it really eats the pencils
