Braided shallots before white fabric WIP

Here is an unfinished painting of some shallots I grew in the garden this summer. Originally the painting did not include any fabric and was just the shallots hanging against my piano. However the still life was under my studio lighting and it was far too difficult to paint the shallots and wood in full white light.

Here's the beginning of the painting.

I was pleased with the little lip of wood on the front of my piano but the shallots and the overall composition just REALLY wasn't working so I put the sheet in and built a ramshackle shadowbox over it out of an umbrella and another easel.

I really need a proper shadowbox!!! Hoping to get this done this month or at least before the shallots rot.
