Learn from the masters

Hello painters and painteresses (?)

Like Mark I love the work of Rembrandt and Sargent. I am also in love with the paintings of Whistler.
I like to make quick oik sketches looking at good pictures of the old masters.
Although I have painted all my life (I am 63) I still learned a lot from Mark.

this oil I finished today, it took me 30 minutes, it is on the packing-paper I found with I new shirt I bought.

Thanks Bob. I attended art school in 1987-1996 in Belgium. These were evening classes and only a handful of teachers were good, but then these were really good. We had to work from life all the time and colours were strictly confined: only the main colours were allowed on the palette. Nevertheless I always struggled with colour, maybe that is because I am a natural draughtsman. The YT channel of Mark opened up my eyes and gave me new insight and lust for painting!

No Doubt, Frank. MC has a way of explaining and bringing clarity to things we've known about but were still struggling to fully understand. Look at how easily he makes understanding the limited palette for us.
