I purchased the OFM Essentials Collection Mesh Back Office Chair, Armless, in Black from Amazon for $48.57 (now $61.31); swivel, height-adjustable, fabric seat, mesh straight back, sturdy. I recommend it; it is very comfortable, even after hours of sitting.
One general chair I like for a variety of things is the Singer sewing machine chair. They show up on auction sites, etc... They are laminated wood/steel, and extremely comfortable. They can be found for about 50 bucks, and they can be sold for the same, so it is costless. However, antiquing will probably be on hold for a while.
Mainly I like to stand when I paint, occasionally I sit too and I find this adjustable stool is ideal. Certainly not in the comfy chair bracket but suits me.
I like to stand, too. I feel cramped and unable to wield the brush freely when I sit - but I have a fairly high, straight-backed, armless chair about 6 feet away from the easel for when I occasionally need to take the weight off my feet and look over what I've done. @MichaelD's stool would be ideal. Looks like it swivels which is handy.
I'm thinking of using this stool as a shadow box stand. Very beautiful thing. I used to paint standing. However, I discovered in 2015 that I was getting muscular underneath my feet and in the lower back. Then I saw Mark painting sitting down. So, I paint sitting down on a dining table wooden chair, which works for me.
Hi, I bought an artist chair which Herman Miller Sayl Chair. This is soo amazing and comfortable. I am feeling more comfortable when I am doing painting. Please check my whole review here.
