Hi all
A big hello to you all from Amsterdam. After having browsed the forum quite some time I thought it would be nice to introduce myself as well. I've been painting since before my twenties, mostly with acrylics. Given a full time job and two kids, painting became harder to do over time and without the notion of progress untill i saw some youtube movies by larrivaart working with oil paint and subsequently the youtube movies by Marc that truely explain what is going on during painting.. Now after a roughly twenty year hiatus, i'm trying the dmp method and this brings huge fun. From the website of Marc and the forum i've probably learned more in the past months then in the past decade by just practising but making the same mistakes over and over again. Thank you all for that!

Are you using a color checker?
that is key to getting your values correct.
The three most important things are 1. Value 2. Value and 3. Value.
The colors can be off, the drawing can be off, but the value needs to be correct.
Heres Marks video on color checking.

Take your time. After doing a few of these DMP paintings I find that when I sit down to paint I take a few minutes to let my eyes adjust and to look at the shadows in the still life and to notice the variation in the color and values. If I find while painting that something is wrong I know that I’m not really seeing what’s there and I have to stop again and look again.
Looking forward to watching your progress. Trust Marks instructions they are right on.
For this work i did not use a color checker (yet) as i was not truely planning to make a spot on copy. Having witten that i realise that the color combination in the original is a match that belongs together and my colors may actually not. I told myself not to blend to much i'm happy with some of the vase although it appears leaning a bit to one side. Thanks for your feedback! Next will be completely back to color checker and i will improve the darker colors as well now first.
You'll be amazed what you can see and achieve with a colour checker.
I was in your beautiful city in December and had a wonderful time in the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museum after a bit of cake at Tweede Kamer
Also loved chilling out at the Vegan Junk Food Bar.
