Yes they are ! I love them as well, just stinks that they dont last well, that's why I like acrylic, You can hang your acrylic painting in a moist bathroom, doesnt matter .
There is a comment that i will always remember when i googled about watercolors durabilty compaired to oils or acrylics, they don't discolor or get yellow, though paper itself gets pale with time and watercolors illustrations are not meant to be hanged but rather stored safely in a dark place on acid free paper away of any heat or moisture...anyway here are two watercolors of mine painted in 2016 summer ....i tried to follow Mark's method as much as i could in these paintings .
What i adore about watercolors is that they don't shine or reflect light by the tiniest bit unlike oils or acrylics !
Oh I didnt know, thank you for this information. I love the look of water color much more, for reflective reason . Your work is amazing, thank you for sharing. I'm very deterred by portraits in watercolor.
The background of the upper half of your most recent fox has a 3D quality that I like. The little bit of highlight On the left side in the upper most middle circle helps for that effect. Notice that if you cover up that highlight it looses a great amount of that 3D effect. That shows that you don’t need to use much to create a sense of realism. I also like the design of the shapes in that part of the background. Personally I’m not into the fox part but that’s just my personal taste. Maybe if you made a fox cookie and then tried painting that.
The watercolor paper you choose has a big impact on your first painting. You might choose an expensive paper that can't tolerate heavy washing. Alternatively, select a low-cost set of 50, 100, or 120 sheets and practice polishing your washes.
Hi @Alaska Atlast , I like using watercolors and I agree with Molly09 paper is important. I always keep a pad of 140 lb. Strathmore cold press around to play with. I also use M. Graham Gouache which I’m currently enjoying . Years back I didn’t have the time or space to paint so I moved from oils to watercolor to still keep my hand in my art. Now that I’m retired I am able to enjoy it all. I find for me my watercolors and gouache travel well so that’s how I use it.. on the road. Now that I’m back home I can work on my oils . I really hope you keep enjoying & playing with your watercolors .. it’s so much fun!
