I finally finished a painting that has taken me a few weeks to finish. It was mostly painted wet on wet, but I did paint over layers in certain parts including her hand and some of the background.
In March 2013, I had an opportunity to attend a geisha and maiko performance at a Kaburenjo Theatre in Kamishichiken, the oldest geisha district of Kyoto, Japan. Before the performance, a tea ceremony (chanoyu) took place for the guests. This is a painting of Naosome, a geisha from Kamishichiken, preparing green tea for myself and other guests. Beautiful work!
Only three fingers on the hand - is this part of the narrative?
