Chip Brush Canvas Stain

After the first coat of Geneva canvas stain, Mark says to wait 24 hours before applying the second. In the meantime, does he clean the chip brush – or, as he likes to do between painting sessions – does he just dip it in brush dip? Assuming the latter, and you've pulled the chip brush through a paper towel to roughly clean off the dip, does it make a difference if there is still some residual dip on the brush that mixes with the the stain, or is it better to just clean the chip brush between the two times to make sure that does not happen?
