Study of my dog Emma Jean

I've been meaning to paint her for awhile now as she makes for a great subject. 

Here's a detail picture so you can get an idea of how loose it is

I started this one very quickly by painting in an extremely rough sketch. Here it is like 5 minutes in.

Then just getting all the forms in the right place

Then I just started filling it in. I used to use my palette knife as color checker but now I just eyeball it.

here again is the final painting. Decided to leave the background as canvas stain because I like the sketchy look of it and I think it works with the chunky brushstrokes. 

Finished this painting a lot quicker than I had originally anticipated. I sort of just jumped right into it without a lot of prep work which is unlike me. Finished it in two sessions besides some minor touch-ups!
