Staining Canvas - Does it make the painting process faster?

I usually stain my cotton canvas with burnt umber acrylic paint and let dry because I can judge the color way better.  I decided for the last few paintings to do them without staining.  It is just me or do you need less layers of paint when using a stained canvas?  When I stain I usually only have to let the paint dry once and then paint over it and I’m nearly done.  In comparison, when using a non-stained canvas I paint then let dry painting again let dry and then paint once more for the same effect.  Has anyone else experienced this?  I’m using linen now and am planning on buying marks stain canvas paint.
