Roll canvas

I have the ability to make my own frames and stretch my canvas.
What ounce canvas is best for stretching?

  • edited October 2017
I think any ounce should be fine for stretching. Heavier ones should be more durable... that's about all I know on this topic!

I use 10oz cotton at the moment and it's easy to stretch tightly. I've wondered if 12oz would be any different.

You'll learn a lot just by experimenting yourself. You shouldn't have to buy entire rolls of canvas. Art stores can cut up whatever size you want so you could do a few paintings with 10oz cotton then try linen or whatever. I recommend experimenting in this way. It's a good learning experience and is something you can't really get from just reading about other peoples' experiences online.
